Player 2 Patterns: Cute Coin Purse in Plaid

I'm excited to announce that I just finished another new pattern that I listed today in my Etsy Shop: player2patterns.

This little coin purse is fun to sew, and makes the perfect Christmas gift.  I'm going to wrap this one up and mail it to my friend in England.

I'm looking forward to making more in different fabrics and prints.

October 2017 Sewing Review

In October, I made the following:
  • Simplicity 2215: Cynthia Rowley skirt in a multi-coloured leopard print linen
  • New Look 6010: Bib-front button shirt in plaid
  • Simplicity 8199: Halloween costume - Link from the Legend of Zelda, my favorite Nintendo game.
A productive month, especially in terms of getting my Halloween costume done a day in advance - this normally never happens!

I'm also enjoying all of the fall colours together with my creations.

Song of Storms Accordion Cover

While wearing my Link costume, I decided to play one of my favorite Zelda songs on the accordion - the Song of Storms.

All of my favorite things have finally converged; sewing, accordion and Nintendo!

Simplicity 8199: Halloween 2017 - Link

This Halloween I dressed up as Link from the Legend of Zelda - my favorite Nintendo character.  I made Simplicity 8199, view B.

Although the costume looks complicated, it was surprisingly easy to make and I enjoyed working with the bias tape to cover raw edges.  I also inserted eyelets for the first time.  I had to watch a YouTube video to help me figure out how to do it, because the instructions on the package are in German, but once I got the hang of it, it was actually pretty easy to do and I was happy to have learned a new technique.

I'm also posting a picture of the pumpkin that I carved.  Happy Halloween!

Simplicity 2215: Pleated Cynthia Rowley Skirt

My most recent skirt, Simplicity pattern 2215.  I made this skirt from fabric from my favorite fabric store, Downtown Fabric, located at Queen & Spadina in Toronto.  I love the print and that this design has pockets.

New Look 6010: 3/4 Sleeve Tunic in Plaid

I've been wanting to add more tops to my wardrobe, so I started with New Look 6010 in brushed cotton.  I'm a big fan of plaid, especially at this time of the year.

I made view D, but opted for the non-pleated bib from view B.  I do like the pleats, but I felt they  would compete with the plaid print.

I would make this pattern again.  I probably would try it with the pleated bib next time for some variation.

Very Easy Vogue V9021: Flutter Sleeve Dress in Polka Dots

Another fun afternoon in the garden to look at flowers and to get a picture of my latest Vogue dress.

I made view A, which is the above-the-knee version.  As usual, I would love to make this dress again with a longer skirt - view B.

I've seen several versions of this dress in red on social media, just like the illustration on the package, that look really awesome.  I don't usually wear red, but in the right shade, I think I could be tempted.  But I also think this dress would look really cool in a plaid print...I guess we'll see!

New Look 6434: Embroidered Cotton Top

I love adding DIY pieces to my wardrobe, so I like sewing garments that are quick and easy to make.  If it's a piece that I like, and it was really simple, I will usually make it a few times in different colours and fabrics, which means more options in my closet.

I made New Look 6434, View D, because sleeves with interesting details are currently in fashion, and because I found the perfect embroidered fabric that helps to show them off.

I felt that the neck was wide enough that I didn't even need to bother with a closure - I sewed the centre back seam completely closed and the shirt still fits freely over my head.

I will most likely make this top again when I find more embroidered fabric that I like.

Simplicity 9466: Tribal Maxi Skirt

For this maxi skirt, I used Simplicity 9466, view E, which is an A-line maxi skirt.  I made a test garment and added 3" to the length because I prefer my long skirts to actually touch/skim the floor - I don't like when they are too short.

I intend on making this skirt again in some different colours and prints.

Very Easy Vogue 9075: Cruise Wear Inspired Jumpsuit

I had a lot of fun sewing view A of the V9075 pattern, so I decided to try view B as well.  The fabric is linen in a floral print and reminds me of cruise wear.

Again, this is a quick and easy pattern to make, and the pockets are a great feature.  I didn't make any changes with the pattern, so the results you see in the pictures is the garment executed exactly as designed.

Very Easy Vogue V9075: View A in a Bold Floral Print

This dress was very easy dress to make - I was able to sew it from start to finish in less than eight hours.  It has pockets, which is one of my favorite features.  The only modification I made was to add 2" of length to the hem.

The bold floral print fabric is a cotton blend, and I purchased it from my local Fabricland.

Both my belt and my shoes are from Aldo.

Simplicity 2599: Polka Dot Top with Modifications

I've made Simplicity 2599 before, so this time I decided to change things up by eliminating the ruffle completely and adding a sleeve.  I also changed the closure on the back - instead of a simple loop and button, I added half an inch to the center back to create a facing and plotted out spacing for ten buttons.

I'm also wearing my Burberry sunglasses and Christian Siriano stilettos.

Vogue V8882: Hi-Low Skirt in Floral

This was a fun pattern to make.  But you just have to have lots of room to cut it out - it wouldn't fit on my cutting table, so I had to lay the fabric out on the floor in my front foyer.

It was pretty quick too.  Again, cutting the pattern out was the most time consuming part, as well as hemming the skirt.

I would make this pattern again, but I would probably try one of the other views - I made view F, which is the hi-low silhouette.
